COMBL BANQUET NOTICE

Once again the Dundas Chiefs are pleased to host the 2008 COBA Major awards banquet. This years event will take place Thursday, November 13th at the Dundas Air Force Club across from Volunteer Field. Cocktails will start being served at 6:00pm, while the dinner will commence at 7:00pm. The awards portion of the evening will follow. Congratulations to each team’s nominations and those selected as league finalists. Tickets are available through each team’s managers, or through email.

JANICAS SELECTED TO PORTUGESE NATIONAL TEAM

Lost in the shuffle of the 2008 COMBL season was an exciting opportunity for one of the Dundas Chiefs. In July, infielder Anthony Janicas was selected to represent his parents’ homeland of Portugal in the 2008 European Qualifier Senior Championship which took place in Portugal. On the line was a chance to qualify for the European Championship against such European powerhouses such as Holland and Germany who had previously qualified. After a brief training camp, Janicas impressed the coaching staff earning himself a starting spot on the roster. During the round-robin portion of the tournament Anthony had a .300 batting average, 5 walks, and homerun. Unfortunately the Portuguese team fell just short of advancing to the knock-out phase, but Janicas impressed the representatives of the Portuguese Baseball Federation to garner himself a spot on the team for the following five years.
